Entering the scene, stage left

I’m new to freelance writing, but not to writing.

Words and sentence structure feel like part of my genetic makeup. I spoke in complete sentences before my older sibling comfortably formed words and as soon as I could write, I filled journals with stories and ideas.

I have had professional careers in theatre and in higher ed, but I’m a writer first and always. Hearing Shakespeare’s words drifting on the breeze under a star-filled sky hooked me. For the next decade, I worked in theatre, eventually writing plays. Then I caught the academic bug and spent the decade after that trying to measure up as a non-publishing focused scholar at a Research 1 university.

While writing at a small, private liberal arts college, here I am entering the field stage left. I look forward to the journey as I write my future.
